MMS1: Water Purification

Purifying water is a simple operation. Both MMS (Sodium Chlorite alone) and MMS1 (Chlorine Dioxide solution freshly made up) are good water purifiers. We shall deal with MMS1 here. The amount of MMS1 to use will depend upon the source and how dirty the water is. The table below gives a good rule of thumb:

Water source and quality Number of drops of MMS1 for every 4 litres of water
Rainwater or stored potable water 1 drop per 4 litres of water
Clean river water 3 drops per 4 litres of water
Questionable river water 8 drops per 4 litres of water
Murky dirty water 12 drops per 4 litres of water

Procedure

  1. Run the water through a cloth to filter out larger solids
  2. Make up the MMS1 solution in the usual way
  3. Add the MMS1 to the water to be purified
  4. Mix for 10 - 30 seconds
  5. Leave to stand for 30 minute before drinking
